چکیده

The effective field theory including the dissipative effect is developed based on the Caldeira-Leggett theory at the classical level. After the integration of the small field fluctuations considered as the field radiation, the integrodifferential field equation is given and shown to include the dissipative effects. In that derivation, special cares should be taken for the boundary condition of the integration. Application to the linear sigma model is given, and the decay process of the chiral condensate is calculated with it, both analytically in the linear approximation and numerically. With these results, we discuss the stability of chiral condensates within the quenched approximation. PACS number: 05.40.+j, 12.38.Mh, 25.75.+r Typeset using REVTEX ∗Supported by ME grant. 1

Non-Perturbative Renormalization Group Approach for Quantum Dissipative Systems

We analyze the dissipative quantum tunneling in the Caldeira-Leggett model by the non-perturbative renormalization group method. We classify the dissipation effects by introducing the notion of effective cutoffs. We calculate the localization susceptibility to evaluate the critical dissipation for the quantum-classical transition. Our results are consistent with previous semi-classical argument...

Thermal Reservoir coupled to External Field and Quantum Dissipation

In the framework of the Caldeira -Leggett model of dissipative quantum mechanics, we investigate the effects of the interaction of the thermal reservoir with an external field. In particular, we discuss how the interaction modifies the conservative dynamics of the central particle, and the mechanism of dissipation. We briefly comment on possible observable consequencies. The dissipative Hofstadter model, which describes a particle in 2-D subject to a periodic potential, uniform magnetic field, and dissipation, is also related to open string boundary states. This model exhibits an SL(2,Z) duality symmetry and hidden reparametrization invariance symmetries. These symmetries are useful for finding exact solutions for correlation functions. Fluctuation-dissipation theorem and quantum tunneling with dissipation

We suggest to take the fluctuation-dissipation theorem of Callen and Welton as a basis to study quantum dissipative phenomena ( such as macroscopic quantum tunneling ) in a manner analogous to the Nambu-Goldstone theorem for spontaneous symmetry breakdown. It is shown that the essential physical contents of the Caldeira-Leggett model such as the suppression of quantum coherence by Ohmic dissipa...

The Emergence of Classicality via Decoherence: Beyond the Caldeira-Legget Environment

Maximally predictive states, as defined in recent work by Zurek, Habib and Paz, are studied for more elaborate environment models than a linear coupling to an oscillator bath (which has become known as the Caldeira-Leggett model). An environment model which includes spatial correlations in the noise is considered in the non-dissipative regime. The Caldeira-Leggett model is also re-considered in...
